Working the Measures board
Filter what needs deciding, hand measures on, decide in bulk and keep the conversation with the measure.
Commercial › Measures is where measured work waits to be checked, decided and billed. Each row is one measure — or one run across several jobs — with where it has got to on the money beside it.
What the board shows depends on who is looking. People with Manage commercial see every measure — or every one on the workstreams they manage, if their access is limited to those — with the money, and can decide, hand on and bill them. Everyone else sees only the measures they recorded themselves, without an Amount column or any figure, and cannot use Select — see Recording a measure without Manage commercial. The rest of this article is written for the commercial desk.

Reading the board
The columns are Job, Work (the first line's item, +N when there are more, and how many evidence files are attached), Contract, Measured (a day, or a span such as 13 – 18 Sep 2026), Amount, Status, Billing and Assignee.
Billing says where the money is:
- Awaiting approval — not decided yet, or rejected.
- Unbilled — approved and ready for an invoice.
- Draft invoice — on an invoice that has not been issued.
- The invoice number — once it is issued.
- Valued — taken into a valuation.
A measure covering several jobs shows the first job with +N more jobs under it.
Finding what needs you
The search box, Search jobs, invoices or POs, reads every job a measure covers, its work, its contract, its assignee, the invoice it is on, the client's PO and the client's name. Spaces and punctuation don't matter, so INV3099, inv 3099 and 3099 all find INV-3099, and several words narrow the list together. Beside the search:
- Contract and Status.
- Assignee — including Assigned to me, the queue of measures somebody has handed you, and Unassigned.
- Team — the workstream the job belongs to.
- Billing — the stages above.
- Uplift › May need an uplift — measures worked outside your working hours, on the days they cover, that carry no uplift on any line. It only appears when your workspace has set working hours and something qualifies.
Each filter only offers values the other filters leave reachable, so a choice never empties the board without a reason.
View: at the head of the toolbar saves the search, these filters and the sort as a named view, just for you or for the office, and can make one the view Measures opens on. See Saved views.
Handing a measure to someone
Open a measure and use Assignee to say who owns the next step. The list holds the owners and holders of Manage commercial whose workstreams reach that job — plus the person who recorded the measure, marked (measured it), so a query can go back to whoever was on site. Whoever you choose is notified.
Who is told
- A measure is recorded: the holders of Manage commercial whose workstreams reach its job are told A measure is waiting for review, once per measure however many jobs it covers. Whoever recorded it is not.
- A measure is decided: whoever recorded it is told it was approved or rejected. Several decisions within a minute, such as a bulk Approve, reach them as one notice, such as 5 measures approved, while the first is still unread.
- A decision is taken back: whoever decided it and whoever recorded it are both told.
Nobody is told about their own action.
Discussion and history
Every measure has a Discussion. Keep questions and answers about a quantity there, where the next person to open the measure will find them. Type @ to mention someone; they are told. You can remove your own comments; commercial managers can remove any.
Activity (folded until you choose Show) is the measure's trail: Measure recorded, Assigned to …, Approved, Corrected, and sent back for a decision, Added to an invoice, and so on. Where a change touched the dates it says so: Days measured 13 – 18 Sep 2026, was 18 Sep 2026.

Working on many at once
With Manage commercial, choose Select to tick measures. The box in the header ticks everything currently on screen — not measures hidden by a filter. The bar at the foot shows how many are ticked, the contract and currency when they agree, and their total.

- Export — Excel (.xlsx), one workbook with a sheet per measure, or PDF, one document with a page per measure. Neither changes the measures.
- Assign — hand them all to one person, or Unassigned.
- Status — Approve, Reject, or Awaiting approval to take back a decision. Each asks first. Only measures still awaiting a decision are approved or rejected; only decided measures that have not been billed or valued can go back.
- Contract — move them to another contract. This re-prices them, so any that were approved go back to awaiting approval, and the question says so.
- Delete — removes them. Anything already on an invoice or in a valuation is left alone.
- Create invoice — raises a draft invoice from the ticked measures. The button says why when it cannot: an invoice is built from approved measures not yet billed, for one client, in one currency. See Raising an invoice from approved measures.
There is no single batch action behind the scenes: each measure is changed in turn, and the message afterwards says what happened — Approved 3 of 5, with the reason the rest were refused.
Cancel selection puts the ticks away.
