Deduction reasons
The list a deduction is raised from, and why each reason says who it benefits.
Every company deduction has a reason. The list is under Pay › Company deductions › Reasons.
Maliru starts every workspace with: Damage, Lost equipment, Advance, Loan, Uniform or PPE, Fine or penalty notice, Training cost, Overpayment, and Other.
Who a reason benefits
Each reason says whether it is for The company or The worker:
- The company — Damage, Lost equipment, Uniform or PPE, Fine or penalty notice, Training cost and Other. For an employee, these are checked against the minimum wage floor.
- The worker — an Advance, a Loan or an Overpayment they are paying back. These are not checked against the floor.
Your own reasons
New reason adds one, with its name and who it benefits. You can rename a reason or change who it benefits; deductions already using it follow the change from the next run worked out, without asking the worker to agree again. Two reasons can't share a name.
A reason you no longer use can be retired: it stays on the deductions that already use it, and is not offered for new ones. Restore brings it back.
Your payroll provider receives each deduction as its own line, keyed by its reason. The key never changes, even if you rename the reason, so a provider's mapping keeps working. See setting up your payroll provider.
