Where to find your earnings statement
Your earnings statement or self-bill statement is filed in My documents, on your phone and in the office.
When the business you work for closes a pay run and issues statements, yours is filed in your own documents in Maliru, where you can open it whenever you need it.
If you are an employee, you get an earnings statement: what you earned in the period, line by line, before tax. It is not a payslip. Your payslip, with tax and take-home pay, comes from the payroll provider the business uses. If you work as a contractor, you get a self-bill statement.
When it arrives
You get a notification: Your earnings statement is ready — Your earnings statement for the period is in your documents. A contractor's reads Your self-bill statement is ready. It is in the bell on your Today screen as well.
What your lock screen shows depends on your notification settings. If you have switched Show the details off, a push says only Open Maliru to view your update. A notification never shows an amount. See notification settings.
Tapping the notification opens My documents, with the new one highlighted.
Where it is
On your phone: tap Me in the bottom bar and scroll down to My documents. Your statement is listed as Earnings statement followed by the dates it covers — for example Earnings statement 2026-09-09 to 2026-09-22 — with Pay document underneath. Tap the download icon beside it to open it.
In the office app: choose Me in the menu. My documents is the same list.
A contractor's is listed as Self-bill statement with the dates. Earlier statements stay in the list, and so do payslips issued before 27 September 2026 — see Payslips from before 27 September 2026, below.

What an earnings statement shows
An earnings statement is a one-page PDF. From the top:
- the business's name, Earnings statement, your name, and a line saying Employee, the period and the date you are paid.
- Earnings — each line of pay that made up the period, with how it was reached underneath, such as 32 h at GBP 20.00. A salary is Salary, or Salary (10 of 23 working days) for part of a period, and approved unpaid leave comes off it as Unpaid absence, as does a working day nobody could account for where the business tracks attendance by the clock. Time comes one line per rate: Plain time, a line for each overtime rate, such as Overtime ×1.5 and Overtime ×2, a premium day under its rule's name, such as Sunday premium ×2 or Holiday premium ×1.5, and a shift that pays more under the shift's name, such as Night premium ×1.25. Paid leave is Holiday pay, or a line for each part of your holiday entitlement, such as Holiday pay (normal pay), and work paid by the day is Days worked. Then allowances, bonuses and anything else added by hand, in the words the office used, piece work, and any correction to an earlier period, with the dates it corrects.
- Deductions, taken after tax — money you owe the company and agreed to, such as a deduction for damage, with anything Carried forward to a later period — and Paid back to you, for expenses repaid. These appear only when there is something to show.
- Gross pay — what you earned in the period, before tax.
- Days with no rate — if any day in the period had no pay rate in force, the statement names it. Those days are not in the figures, so raise it with the office.
It has no tax, no take-home pay and nothing the business pays on top, because the payroll provider works those out. The statement says so: This is not a payslip. Your payslip, with tax and take-home pay, comes from the business's payroll provider.
If you lead a gang, it also has Paid for the work of your gang: each member, their share and what that share comes to, worked out from your gross pay — or as agreed where no share was recorded. The business pays the whole amount to you and settles nothing else with the others. See paying a gang.
Amounts are shown with the currency code, such as GBP 1,250.00.

A self-bill statement
A contractor's statement stands in for an invoice you would otherwise have sent, so it goes as far as what you are paid: What we are paying you for lists each line, with how it was reached, and adds up to Total; Withheld and paid to the revenue lists what was kept back under a withholding scheme; Charged back to you and Paid back to you appear when there is something to show; and Paid to you is the amount you receive. If you lead a gang, the shares are worked out from what you are paid. It says it was Prepared by the business in place of an invoice from you. Do not invoice separately for this work. See contractors in a pay run.
Payslips from before 27 September 2026
Until 27 September 2026, Maliru worked out employees' tax and take-home pay itself and issued a Payslip. Those payslips stay in My documents exactly as they were issued, listed as Payslip with the dates they cover, and still show the deductions, Net pay and employer contributions worked out then. Since that date your tax, your take-home pay and your payslip come from the payroll provider.
Who else can see it
Other workers can't. In the office, the people who run pay see the figures they worked out, and the PDF on your record can be opened only by people with the Manage pay documents permission.
If something looks wrong
Ask the office — the statement itself says so. A statement is never edited after it is issued, because it records a period that is closed. If you were paid too little or too much, the difference goes into your next pay run as a correction, and your next statement shows it with the dates it corrects. See putting a paid period right.
If a whole run was wrong, the office reverses it and runs it again, and you may get a second statement for the same dates. The office tells you which one stands.
If your gross pay is right but your tax or take-home pay looks wrong, that is on your payslip from the payroll provider. Ask the office who runs it.
Your pay in Me
If the business runs pay in Maliru, Me › Pay on your phone lists your statements, newest first, once the office has issued them. Tap one to see:
- Earnings — each kind of pay, with its hours or days and rate, such as Overtime ×1.5, 6.5 h at £18.75;
- Deductions and Reimbursements, if you have any, and Absence, in days;
- Gross, and for a contractor what was Withheld and what was Paid to you.
An earnings statement shows pay before tax: your payslip, with tax and take-home pay, comes from your employer's payroll provider. Older payslips are listed as they were, with their net pay. A statement from a run the office reversed says so, and keeps its figures. Open PDF opens the document itself.

Checking your pay before payday
If your employer has switched on the query window, Me › Pay also shows your pay for a period before it is final, under Not final yet. You are told once, when the office first works it out: Your pay is ready to check. Tapping it opens Me › Pay. Tap it to see each kind of pay with its hours or days, the hours and days it was worked out from, and your gross. These figures can still change until the pay run closes.
If something looks wrong:
- Tap Raise a query.
- Under What is it about?, choose one line, such as Overtime ×1.5, or The whole period. You can also pick a day.
- Under What looks wrong?, write it — for example I worked until 18:00 on Tuesday — and tap Send query.
Your payroll team is told straight away. Your queries are listed under Your queries, with the answer when there is one, and you are notified when somebody answers or resolves one.
Once the pay run closes, your queries are kept as they were, under Your queries and on your statement for that period once it is issued. Anything still wrong is put right in your next pay.
Nobody else on your team can see your statements, your figures or your queries; the people who run pay can. Each time you open them, it is recorded.

What isn't on your phone
- Your pay rate. Me › Pay shows what you were paid, not the rate on file. Ask the office what is on file — including a withholding rate set differently for you, if you are a contractor.
- Your pay with no signal. Me › Pay and Me › Deductions are never saved on the phone, so they need a connection to open; without one, Your pay could not load. Raising a query, and agreeing to or disputing a deduction, also need a connection: they are not held to send later.
- Your bank details. You can't add or change them in the app. If you are a contractor, give them to whoever runs pay, and they enter them for you. If you are an employee, your pay comes through the payroll provider, so ask the office where your details should go.
Money you owe the company, such as a deduction for damage, is under Me › Deductions, where you agree to it or dispute it before anything is taken. See company deductions.
Maliru works out your gross pay and, for a contractor, what is withheld and what you are paid. It does not pay you: an employee is paid through the business's payroll provider, and a contractor by the business from its own bank.
