Doing an induction on your phone

Where your inductions are, how each step works, quizzes, signing, checking in to a session, and carrying on without signal.

When you are enrolled in an induction, you get a notification that one is assigned to you. Finishing it gives you a credential, which the business may need before you can work at a site or for a client.

Where to find it

  • In the Binder, at the top of the Work tab, under Inductions. See all lists all of yours, To do and Completed.
  • On Today, when one is due within a week (1 induction due soon) or is overdue.
  • In its folder in the Binder, where a ring fills as you go.

Each induction shows how far through you are, such as 3 of 7, and when it is due. An overdue one is marked Overdue.

Working through it

Open the induction to see its steps. The main button names the next one, for example Next: Site rules. A step you cannot do yet says After the step before: finish the earlier ones first. A tick means a step is done.

Read

The document opens in the Binder. Read it, then tap Read & confirm; for a file, open it first. Step done.

Watch

The video plays in the app, with how much you have watched underneath, such as Watched 2:10 of 5:00. It counts once you reach the end: Watch to the end to continue. If skipping ahead is off for the step, you cannot jump past the part you have not watched. On mobile data, you are asked before an uploaded video plays.

A video on another website opens in the browser. Watch it, come back, and tap I have watched it.

Form

Fill in the form as usual. If it is scored, you have to pass it for the step to count.

Quiz

A quiz shows one question per screen, such as Question 2 of 5, with the pass mark. Answer and tap Next, then Send answers on the last question. You then see Passed or Not passed, your score, and the Questions to look at again by number. The right answers are never shown.

If you did not pass, tap Try again while you have attempts left (1 attempt left). With none left: No attempts left. Speak to whoever runs this induction.

A quiz is marked the moment you send it, so it needs signal. Without signal, your answers stay on screen until you can send them.

Sign

Read the declaration, tap Tap to sign and sign with your finger on the full-screen pad, choose Done, then tap Sign. If the business has written the declaration in your language, you read and sign it in your language.

Attend a session

The step shows Your session: the day, the time, the place and who runs it. If you are not booked yet: You are not booked on a session yet. The office will book you on one.

At the session, tap Check in and scan the code on the trainer's screen: You are checked in. Your location is noted at that moment, and only then. Checking in needs signal; if you have none, the trainer ticks you present instead.

Sign-off

Somebody has to see you do it. The step says Waiting for sign-off, or who it is waiting for, until they sign it off.

When only other people's parts are left, the induction says Nothing more for you to do now. The rest is completed by others.

Finished

You see Induction complete, and the credential it gave you with how long it lasts, for example Credential issued: Site induction, valid until 2 Oct 2027. It is on your record with your other credentials. Before it expires, you may be enrolled again to renew it.

Without signal

Read, watch, form and sign steps can be finished without signal. Each is kept on the phone (Saved on this phone. It will send when you have signal.) and sent in order when you are back in coverage, so you can carry on to the next step meanwhile. A quiz and checking in to a session need signal. To read a document without signal, keep it on your phone first: see The Binder on the job. More in Working with no signal.
