Mention someone on a job, defect or other record
Type @ in a record's comments to name a colleague. Only people who can open that record are offered.
Type @ in a record's comment box and a list of names appears. Pick someone and they are notified, with a link straight to the record. It works the same way in chat and on eight record threads.
Where you can mention
- A job's Updates tab ("Write an update…").
- A measure's comments in Commercial.
- An issue's Comments.
- The notes on an asset, a vehicle and an authorisation ("Add a note…").
- An update's comments in Communications › Updates.
- A form submission's comments, on forms that have comments switched on.
- Chat: direct messages and groups. See Team chat.
In each of these, type @ and start typing a name to narrow the list, then pick the person. Their name goes into your comment. Nothing is sent until you post it.
Who can be named
The list only offers people who could open the record. Pointing someone at something they would be refused is worse than not telling them.

Owners can always be named. Deactivated people are never offered.
What the person receives
- The notification reads "{name} mentioned you on {record}", with the start of your comment underneath. Tapping it opens the record.
- Mentions have their own category, Mentions, in Notification settings. Muting a module's notifications doesn't silence the times someone names you. Chat mentions stay under Messages.
- Nobody is notified about mentioning themselves.
- A comment can name up to 20 people. Beyond that, post an update instead.
If someone you named has lost access since you opened the comment box, your comment still posts and they aren't notified.
On the phone
A job's crew can be named from the office, and they get the notification on their phone. The phone's Capture › Job update box is plain text and doesn't offer the @ list. Mentions in chat and in update comments work on the phone as they do in the office.
Mentions in chat
In chat, the list is the conversation's members. If you edit a message and add a new name, that person is notified when you save.
