Finding your way around the workspace

The navigation rail, the top bar, search and the account menu of the office workspace.

On a laptop or any wide screen, Maliru opens the office workspace. Navigation runs down the left, your work sits in the middle, and the tools are in the top bar.

The navigation rail

Sections appear in a fixed order: Me, Dashboard, Jobs, Schedule, Clients, Sites, Fleet, Assets & equipment, Authorisations, Forms, Defects & issues, Evidence & audit, Timesheets, Commercial, Pay, Communications, Binder and Users. A module section appears only if your workspace has that module switched on. Me, Dashboard and Users are always there. What you can see and change inside a section depends on your permissions.

Collapse at the foot of the rail shrinks it to icons, and Expand brings the labels back. Maliru remembers your choice. On a narrow window the rail folds away behind the menu button at the top left.

Dashboard is the office overview: work needing attention, headline numbers and trends. See Reading your dashboard and Customising and sharing dashboards.

The top bar

  • Search: one box across the whole workspace, "Jobs, sites, clients, fleet and more". Type a job reference, a name or a registration. Results are grouped by section and open the record.
  • Upgrade: the orange button opens the Plans dialog. It's on the web only: the iPhone and Android apps never show plans or prices. Only someone with Manage subscription, normally the owner, can view or change the plan. See Upgrading, seats and billing interval.
  • Marie: Maliru's AI assistant. Ask how to do something, find a record by typing its name or number, or ask about your own work. Ctrl+K (⌘K on a Mac) opens her from anywhere. See Marie, your assistant in Maliru.
  • Help: opens Marie's window too, with the guides, and Talk to a person for the Maliru team.
  • The bell: your notification inbox. The badge counts unread items. Every notification lands here, whatever your delivery settings, and each row opens the record it is about. See The notification bell and inbox.
  • Messages: team chat in an overlay, without leaving the screen you're on. It appears when your workspace has Chat switched on.

On a narrow window, Marie, Help, Notifications and Messages move into a More actions menu (⋮).

The account menu

The account menu, with the version line under Sign out

Click your avatar at the top right:

  • Global settings: your own Appearance (light or dark, row density), then the workspace's Workspace defaults, Modules, Alerts, Storage, Workspace profile and Branding. See Workspace settings and branding and Dark mode and row density.
  • Notification settings: what reaches you on each channel. See Notification preferences.
  • Switch company: move between workspaces you belong to, without signing out.
  • Field view: step into the field app to see what the crew sees. On a computer it opens phone-sized in the middle of the screen, which is handy for showing someone the app while you share your screen. Come back with Admin view in the field app's Me › Settings menu, or on a computer with Switch to Admin view in the bar at the top.
  • Sign out.

Under Sign out a muted line shows the running version, for example Version 1.0.0 (web). Quote that line when you contact support.

Small things that help

  • Ctrl+K (⌘K on a Mac) opens Marie from any screen, even while you're typing. Type a job reference, a name or a registration and press Enter to jump to it. You can change the shortcut under Me › Marie.
  • A refresh keeps your place: Maliru reopens the section you were in.
  • Registers keep a view. Save a register's search and filters for yourself or for the whole office, and choose the view it opens on. See Saved views.
  • Notifications open their record. A shift notification lands on the Schedule with that shift open, and a bill notification opens the bill.
  • The browser's back and forward buttons move between sections.
  • Maliru can post a critical notice, such as a planned outage or an urgent fix, as a banner across the top of every section. Dismiss it once you've read it. Everyday news from Maliru stays in the messenger's News tab.
