The notification bell and inbox

Every notification you're sent is kept in one inbox, and each row opens the record it's about.

The bell is where every notification you're sent is kept. It doesn't matter what you've switched off for your phone, browser or email: the inbox still has it.

Where it is

  • In the office, the bell is in the top bar. On a narrow window it's under More actions (⋮) › Notifications.
  • On the phone, the bell is at the top of the Today tab.

The badge on the bell counts your unread notifications. It updates the moment a push reaches the app, and at least once a minute in the office even if your browser blocks notifications.

The notification inbox open over the office, with unread rows in bold and chevrons on the rows that open a record

Reading the inbox

  • Unread rows are bold, with a filled bell icon. Read rows are plain.
  • Each row shows the whole message. Nothing is cut off, so the sentence that matters is always there to read.
  • The time on the right is when it was sent, in day/month and hours:minutes.
  • A chevron (›) means the row opens something. Rows without one are information only.

Opening a notification

Tap or click a row. It's marked read, and Maliru opens the record it's about: the job, the shift or route on the Schedule, the measure, the bill, the timesheet, the defect, the leave request, the form submission, and so on. A few notifications open a section rather than one record. For example, a change to the bank details on invoices opens the Document settings, because a workspace only has one set of them. A lone-worker alarm opens the lone-worker board, where the worst case is at the top.

On the phone, the row opens the matching place in the field app: a job notification opens the job's record, a shift notification opens your shift, an assignment notification opens Work at that assignment, a timesheet decision opens your timesheets, and a leave decision opens Leave. Some records have no page in the field app. If you also use the office workspace, the phone says "This opens in Admin view." with Open in Admin view, which opens the record there. Otherwise it says "This isn't shown on the phone. Open Maliru on a computer to see it."

A notification that pushes to your phone or browser opens the same place when you tap it. The push and the inbox follow the same rules, so a push never takes you somewhere the inbox wouldn't.

Mark all read at the top of the inbox clears the badge in one go. It appears only while something is unread.

What the inbox doesn't do

  • It doesn't remove what you've read. Read notifications stay in the list, which shows your 50 most recent.
  • It isn't affected by your delivery settings. Pausing Mobile, Web or Email in Notification preferences stops those channels, not the inbox.
  • It only shows your own notifications for the workspace you're signed in to. Switch company to see another workspace's.

If the inbox is empty it says "Nothing yet. Operational alerts land here." If it can't load, it says "Notifications could not be loaded." Check your connection and open it again. See Not receiving notifications if pushes aren't arriving.
