Signing in to Maliru
No passwords. You sign in with your mobile number and a one-time SMS code.
Maliru has no passwords to forget. Your mobile number is your sign-in, and a text message confirms it each time.

Signing in
- Welcome, "Log in to your company workspace": pick your country code and enter your mobile number. The picker lists the United Kingdom and Ireland. You can type the number the way you normally would:
07700 900123and+447700900123both work. For any other country, type the full number starting with +. "We will text you a secure one-time code." Tap Send code. - Enter code: type the 6-digit SMS code and tap Continue. Your phone may offer to fill the code in from the message.
- Your workspace opens. If your number belongs to two or more companies, Choose a company comes first: it lists your companies, each with your access there. Tap the one to open. Nothing is marked, and the list can't be closed without a choice. It also has Join with an invite code, and Sign out, which takes you back to the Welcome screen. The company you choose is the one that opens next time. If Maliru can't fetch your companies, for example with no signal, the company you used last opens instead. To move to another company later, use Switch company in the account menu, or in Me › Settings on the phone.
The number is remembered. After a successful sign-in, Maliru fills in that number and its country the next time. Usually you only need to tap Send code. The number stays filled in even after you sign out, because on its own it gives nobody access: the code still goes to that phone. To sign in with a different number, type over it.
Messages before the code is sent
Maliru checks the number before it sends a text, so a typo doesn't cost you a code:
- "Enter your phone number."
- "That number is too short for {country}…" or "…too long for {country}…": the message tells you how many digits a mobile number there has after the country code.
- "That doesn't look like a {country} mobile number. The code is sent by text, so it needs a mobile." Landlines can't receive the code.
Joining for the first time
When your admin adds you, Maliru texts you an invite code with a link, and emails it too if they added your email address. Texts go to UK and Irish mobile numbers. Anywhere else, your admin gives you the code themselves.
Open the link, or the Maliru app, and sign in with the number the invite was sent to. If your number isn't part of a workspace yet, you'll see Almost there: "You are new here — enter the invite code from your admin to join." Type the Invite code from your invite. It looks like XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. Then tap Continue. If you opened the link in a browser, the code is filled in for you.
An invite code works once, only with the phone number your admin entered, and expires after 14 days. If yours is refused, ask your admin to check the number and issue a new code.
Some workspaces share a join link or a QR poster instead. You go through the same phone check, then fill in a short details form. An administrator approves your request before you can sign in.
Joining another company
If you already use Maliru for one company, signing in opens that one, so you won't see the Almost there step. Join the new company from inside Maliru instead:
- Open Switch company: in the account menu, or Me › Settings on the phone.
- Companies that have invited your number are listed there, marked "Invited · join with your code". Tap Join and type the code from your invite. If the company isn't listed, choose Join with an invite code.
- Maliru switches you to the new company. From then on both are in Switch company.
You still need the code: the list only shows that a company has invited your number. Opening the invite link in a browser where you're signed in does all of this for you. If the code doesn't work, Maliru shows it in the Join box with the reason.
Setting up a new company?
If you're setting Maliru up for your own company rather than joining one, go to app.maliru.com in a browser and use Create a company under New to Maliru? at the bottom of the Welcome screen. The iPhone and Android apps don't set up companies. Their Welcome screen says "Your company adds you to Maliru. Ask your admin for an invite." See Creating your workspace.
If the code doesn't come or doesn't work
- Check the number on the Enter code screen. Use a different number takes you back.
- A wrong or expired code returns you to the Welcome screen with a message such as "That code isn't right. Check the SMS and try again, or request a new one." Tap Send code again and use the newest text.
- "Too many attempts. Wait a minute, then request a new code." means just that.
- "No internet connection. Check your connection and try again." means the request never left your device.
