The field app at a glance
Today, Work, Capture, Chat and Me — what each part of the field app is for, and where the settings are.
The field app is Maliru on a phone, built around your day rather than the office's registers. Field workers and supervisors open straight into it. Owners and office admins open into the office workspace and can switch with Field view in the account menu — see Supervisors and managers on the phone.

The bottom bar
- Today — your clock, the lone worker card if your workspace uses it, today's shifts and routes, a ranked Needs your attention list, Waiting on others, forms due, fuel logging and team updates. See Your day on the Today tab.
- Work — everything assigned to you: Upcoming for the next 14 days including today, and Past for the last 14 days. Routes and shifts sit in one list in start-time order. If your workspace uses the Binder, its row at the top opens your company's documents. See Your work: the Work tab and opening a shift.
- Capture — the raised camera button in the middle. Not a tab but an action: first choose what it's about (a job, your vehicle, a site, an asset or yourself), then a form, a photo or file, a defect or a job update. See Capturing photos, forms and defects on site.
- Chat — conversations with your team, plus Requests, Updates and Briefings where your workspace uses them. If your workspace has chat switched off, the tab takes the name of the first area that is on, such as Updates; with none on, it disappears.
- Me — your time, leave, forms, ID card, credentials and documents, and the settings menu.
Me
Me opens with its title and the cog for settings, then a grid of shortcuts — each only while your workspace uses it:
- My time — your clock and timesheet.
- Leave — your balances and bookings.
- My forms — forms waiting to send, drafts, and what you've submitted.
- Expenses — claim money back. See Expenses and reimbursements.
- Pay — if your workspace runs pay in Maliru, the statements issued to you, line by line, and, if it lets you, your pay before it is final, with a way to query it.
- Deductions — money you owe the company, to agree to or dispute before anything is taken, beside your allowances and bonuses.
Below them:
- Your digital ID card and check-in code.
- My credentials — licences and certificates. Add one; an administrator reviews it before it counts.
- My documents — things your office has sent you to read or sign, and Submit a document to send one back. Earnings statements and self-bill statements are filed here too — see Where to find your earnings statement.
Settings (Me › cog)

The cog opens, in order:
- Notifications — what reaches you on each channel. Your in-app inbox keeps every notification whatever you choose. See Notification preferences.
- Storage — how much of your workspace's storage is used. Your photos are usually most of it.
- Contact Maliru support — ask Marie, Maliru's AI assistant, how something works, or talk to Maliru's own support team. When support has replied and you haven't read it, a dot shows on the cog and a count beside this line.
- Appearance — Match my phone, Light or Dark.
- Language — see Choosing your language on the phone.
- Navigation app — in the iPhone and Android apps, which maps app Directions opens: Google Maps, Waze or Apple Maps, whichever the phone has, or Ask me next time. The first time you tap Directions, Maliru asks ("Open directions in") and remembers your choice. A phone with only one maps app uses it without asking.
- Sign-in number — move your sign-in to a new phone number, with a code texted to it.
- Check for updates — opens the app's store page (installed apps only).
- Terms of use and Privacy policy.
- Switch company — move to another company you work for without signing out. It also lists invites waiting for your number, each with Join, and Join with an invite code.
- Admin view — only if your access includes the office workspace.
- Sign out, then the app's version number, which support may ask for.
Notifications and the directory
The bell at the top of Today opens your Notifications, with Mark all read. Tapping one — in the inbox, or on your phone's lock screen — takes you to its record:
- A job opens its record. A shift opens your shift, or Work if it isn't yours any more. A route opens the route. An assignment opens Work with that row pinned first — Selected from Today.
- Timesheets and corrections open your timesheet; leave decisions open Leave.
- A chat message opens its conversation. Updates open Chat › Updates, and requests Chat › Requests, with that one first.
- Credentials, pay statements, deductions and pay queries open Me; a review of a form you filed opens that submission.
- Your own vehicle or equipment opens Capture on it. Binder documents and inductions open in the Binder.
- A defect opens the defects register; an authorisation opens its record; an expense opens the claim.
- A lone worker "Check in now" opens Today at your lone worker card. A colleague's alarm opens the lone worker board if you are allowed to see it, and Today if not.
Something the phone has no page for, such as a measure or a bill, says "This opens in Admin view.", with Open in Admin view if your access includes the office. Otherwise it says "This isn't shown on the phone. Open Maliru on a computer to see it."
Next to the bell, Directory lists your colleagues, with a search and Call and Email buttons.
Staying current
The app refreshes itself when something changes for you. Pull down on Today or Work to check at any time. On an installed app, the coming week's work is saved on the phone while it has signal, so the app opens and works with none — see Working with no signal.
