Working a route on your phone

One card for all your route's jobs — confirm once, set statuses several at a time, and share the report.

A route is a run of jobs given to you, or to a crew, as one card. Each person on it confirms once for themselves. Everyone works from the same job list and sees the same progress.

Finding your routes

Today's routes lead Today's shifts on Today, as "Route · 12 jobs · 7 done · 58%". On Work, route cards sit among your shifts in start-time order. Once a route is finished and its window has passed, it moves to Work › Past.

New routes appear as soon as the office publishes them, with a notification: "New route: {route}". If a route you hold is changed or given to someone else, you get a notification — "Your route changed" or "A route was reassigned".

If the office gave the route a start point, a saved site or an address, the route card on Today and Work, and the route itself, show it with Directions.

Following the stop order

If the office planned the order of the stops, your route card shows Next stop 3 of 8 with the stop's address (or the job's name when it has none), and Directions goes straight to that stop. When you set that job to a done status, the card moves on to the next stop, even with no signal before the status has been sent. When every stop is done it reads All stops done.

A parent's sub-jobs at one place are one stop. The card names the parent and how many of them are left ("B076516 · 2 of 8 left"), and moves on once all of them are done. Opening the route shows them under the parent, all with the same stop number.

Opening the route lists the jobs in that order, each with its stop number and a button for directions to that stop. Jobs added after the order was planned come after the planned stops.

Your route on a map

Crew plan and above. Open the route and choose Map to see its stops as numbered pins, in the order you drive them, from the start point. Done stops are grey and the next one stands out. Tap a pin to see its job and get Directions. A stop that isn't on the map is listed under it, with why.

If you've let Maliru use your location while you use the app (it asks when you first clock in), the map also shows where you are. That dot stays on your phone: it isn't recorded, saved or sent to anyone, and it stops when you close the map. Maliru never asks for your location all the time.

The map works from the route your phone last saved. With no signal, parts of the map you haven't seen may be blank, but the stop list and Directions keep working.

The first time you tap Directions on a phone with more than one maps app, Maliru asks which to open (Open directions in: Google Maps or Waze, and Apple Maps on an iPhone) and remembers your choice. Change it any time in Me › Navigation app.

Confirming

An unconfirmed route shows Needs confirmation on Today (Awaiting confirmation on Work) and a Confirm button. One tap confirms your part of the whole route — every job in it — so the office knows you have seen it.

If a route starts within 48 hours and you still haven't confirmed a couple of hours after it was published, Maliru sends you one reminder: "Please confirm: {route}. This route starts soon and is still unconfirmed." On a shared route each holder is reminded for themselves. If the reminder goes unanswered too, the office is told.

Updating jobs as you go

Open the route card. You'll see its window, "7 of 12 complete" with the percentage, and the full job list. Each row shows the job and its current status. Under the job, one line shows the details your office chose for its route reports — for example PMG3A12 · Langton Green — or the route reference if it chose none.

To set a status:

  1. Tick the jobs you've just finished, or any set that share a new status. The bar counts them — "3 of 12 selected" — with Clear selection to start again.
  2. Under Update 3 selected jobs, add a Note (optional) if something needs saying — no access, gate locked.
  3. Choose the New status and tap Apply status.

The jobs update together and the progress moves. A note you add is saved as the note on every job you selected, replacing what was there, and appears in the report. Leave it blank and the jobs' notes are left alone.

You can update up to 500 jobs in one go. You can only set statuses on jobs you are assigned to, and only to statuses your workstream defines.

Sharing the completion report

Share report builds a PDF of the route: a table of its jobs, with the columns your workstream chose for reports and each status in its own colour. Branding follows your workspace's plan.

You'll see "Preparing the report…" and can carry on working. On the phone your share sheet then opens, so you can send it by message or email or save it to your files. In a browser it downloads instead — "Report downloaded."

Tip: the report shows the statuses at the moment you build it. Share it at the end of the day for a complete record of the route.

Poor signal, or a job that won't complete

On an installed app, your routes for the coming week stay readable out of signal. Confirming a route, moving a status and ticking off jobs with no signal are saved on the phone and sent when signal returns. If somebody else changed the route or the job after you, their change stands and yours shows under Needs attention with the reason.

If a job won't move to a done status, check its Evidence: required photos or files must be uploaded first. A capture still saved only on your phone doesn't count yet. See Job evidence and completion requirements.

A route job is different

Some route work comes as a parent with sub-jobs, such as a blockage with the routes under it. A route lists those sub-jobs under their parent's name. Tap the parent to read its details and files. See Parents and sub-jobs in route workstreams.
