Sharing and download problems

Where a web download goes, a share sheet that won't open, expired file links, and support that won't open.

Web: where did my file go?

When you export or download on the web, Maliru tells you straight away that it has started, for example "Preparing the PDF — it will download when it is ready." You can carry on working in the meantime, and you don't need to stay on that screen. When the file is ready, a second message confirms it, such as "PDF downloaded." or "Report downloaded."

The

The file goes to your browser's downloads, usually the Downloads folder or the download icon in the browser toolbar. It's named after the work it came from.

If nothing arrives, check whether the browser blocked the download. A small icon usually appears in the address bar. Allow downloads for your Maliru address.

On the Free plan, some exports count towards 5 a month, including timesheet, fleet cost and accounting exports. Issuing an invoice counts towards a separate 5 invoices a month, never towards exports. If you've used them all, a prompt says so and the export or invoice doesn't go ahead. See What's included in the Free plan.

Phone: the share sheet doesn't appear

On the phone, a report is handed to your phone's share sheet rather than downloaded. You'll see "Preparing …" briefly, then the share sheet should open. If instead you see:

"Couldn't open the share sheet. Please try again."

try again, because it's almost always a one-off. If it keeps happening:

  1. Update the app. Older versions had a share problem that has since been fixed. See Updating Maliru and finding your app version.
  2. Close and reopen the app, then try again.
  3. Still stuck? Tell support your phone model and the Version line from Me › Settings.

"PDF export failed." on a form export means the document itself couldn't be built. The usual cause is the connection, because the report fetches your logo and photos. Try again with better signal.

"The file could not be opened."

Files open through secure links that expire after an hour. A link left open on screen, or forwarded to someone else, goes stale. Go back to the record and open the file again to get a fresh link.

Support or help won't open

Marie and your conversations with the Maliru team open inside Maliru itself. There's no third-party chat widget for an ad blocker to get in the way of.

  • "Support is temporarily unavailable. Please try again.": if this appears straight after Maliru has released an update, your browser is probably holding an old copy of the app. A hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R, or Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac) fixes it.
  • "Help Center is temporarily unavailable. Please try again.": Maliru tried to open this help centre in a new tab, and the browser refused, usually because of a pop-up blocker. Allow pop-ups for Maliru, or go to maliru.com/help directly. The same guides open inside Marie's window (Help in the top bar), with no new tab involved.

Remember: an export shows the data as it was when you made it. If something looks missing, it was probably changed after the export. Export again.

A shared pack won't open

A pack invitation comes with its own six-digit access code, sent separately from the link. Use the latest link if a reminder or replacement was sent. An expired or withdrawn link needs the sender's help. Signing in to a different Maliru workspace won't fix it.

A guest upload is limited to 10 MB per file and needs a connection. If the company switched on an emailed PDF copy and it hasn't arrived, ask the sender to check completion and delivery details. See Completing a shared pack.
